On a hot summer day in 1990, Karl Clegg was installing a barbed wire fence around his new pasture when he stopped for a Pepsi break. While he was stopped, an ad came over the radio asking a simple question - who was interested in opening a TrueValue Hardware Store in Greenwood. This question resonated with Karl. He had recently left his job at the welding shop, and he thought this could be his calling to what is next. Not long after hearing this ad, Karl went to the bank to finance a hardware store. Articles of organization were later filed as Faithway Inc to signify that this business as a leap of faith that God would provide the way.
Karl and his wife, Gail, had the perfect location for their new store that held sentimental value. The store would be built where Gail's childhood home was, which also served as her dad's Exxon filling station, Ruff's Grocery. Faithway, Inc, better known as Triangle Hardware, opened their doors in May 1991, just a few days after their son, Will, was born.
Karl and Gail were overjoyed when Will got involved officially in the business when he was 15 and he remained involved throughout highschool and college. In 2019, Will decided to go into hardware full time and purchased an existing TrueValue in Clinton, SC. Only two years later, Will convinced the powers that be to open another TrueValue on the northside of Greenwood, now known as Greenwood Hardware.
These three locations allow them to expand our services further, and therefore be a better store for their customers. The Clegg's take pride in their stores and strive for their employees and customers alike to be met with a fun, family atmosphere. Karl, Gail and Will thank past and present customers that use their stores, and welcome new customers to come see that help really is just around the corner.
